Hugs Across America

Mrs Doxsee's, Mrs. Patello's and Mrs Lacy's first grade classes participated in a program called Hugs Across America.  This program distributes stuffed teddy bears to children in crisis (through events such as national disasters, medical emergencies or parental deployment to war zone).  On Pajama Day each child brought in a brand new stuffed teddy bear to donate to this program.  The children then created tags with heart warming sentiments.  The children then poured all their "love" into these bears by giving them big hugs.  This was a wonderful way to learn about compassion for others, and how to help those less fortunate than us.  Our pajama day was filled with sweet dreams and the gift of giving!

Bear Hug

There’s something in a simple hug
That always warms the heart;
It welcomes us back home
And makes it easier to part.

A hug’s a way to share the joy
And sad times we go through,
Or just a way for friends to say
They like you ‘cause you’re you.

Hugs are meant for anyone
For whom we really care,
From your grandma or your neighbor
Or your cuddly teddy bear.

A hug is an amazing thing,
It’s just the perfect way
To show the love you’re feeling
But can’t find the words to say.

It’s funny how a little hug makes
everyone feel good;
In every place and language,
It’s always understood.

And hugs don’t need new equipment,
Special batteries or parts.
Just open your arms
And then open up your hearts.
